Corporate language can get in the way of defining what your actual challenge is, so one of the methods we use is a visualisation exercise.
We ask teams to not only imagine their project as a superhero but also imagine the villain their superhero is fighting against. Creating a villain helps us to identify the challenges at the heart of an issue.
It’s a bit of fun, but also actually a surprisingly effective method for realising the barriers to climb in a project, and it also helps to make them feel easier to fight. Our Strategy Lead, Katie Stotter, made a few of them into cartoons for a recent team demo – we think Marvel may be calling any day now… ?
