Mid-weight Designer

Jobs

We are looking for a mid-weight designer who can contribute to a diverse range of projects, using their experience in research, problem-solving and design-thinking to create improved experiences for users. You might come from a UX, service design, innovation or visual design background, but are interested in how these disciplines overlap.

We’re a friendly and curious team of innovators who believe a diversity of backgrounds, experience and opinions builds the strongest multi-disciplinary design team, so encourage those from under-represented groups to apply.

This is a permanent role, based in Old St, London, with the flexibility to work from home on a regular basis, and opportunities to travel in the course of work.

What you’ll be doing

Your work could range from designing digital products to IRL team training experiences, or from co-creating feasibility innovation workshops to storyboarding videos. Some of the things we’ll ask you to get involved in are:

Get hands-on with client work

  • Sketch and prototype ideas for new products, services and testing design solutions.
  • Design flows and experiences that are clean and well thought out, be they in real life or digital.
  • Be open to try your hand with designing things you’ve not designed before. We’re interested in experimenting, storytelling and visual craft.
  • Help design and run a discovery process, including co-designing and co-facilitating requirement-gathering and client workshops.
  • Own specific activities as part of a project team with strategists, designers or coaches.
  • Devise simple design solutions to complex challenges.
  • Apply established brand guidelines.
  • Look for opportunities to improve our design sprints, accessibility or include more life-centred design approaches, for example.

Support the design team

  • Collaborate with &us designers, raising the bar on what ‘good’ is – experientially, visually, and ethically.
  • Participate in an open culture of feedback, learning and sharing.
  • Help evolve the &us brand language and supporting assets, educating others on how to get the most from it.
  • Learn about and apply our tools and frameworks.
  • Spotting and actioning opportunities to improve our ways of working.

Your experience

We need someone with agency or consultancy experience, who knows how to get hands-on with  design work and create meaningful experiences.

  • 3+ years experience creating  and redesigning  products/services, from proposition through strategy to design implementation.
  • Confident using Figma (especially), Sketch, GSuite, Adobe and/or prototyping tools of your choice. Knowledge or curiosity for Notion, Webflow and other time-saving tools are always welcome.
  • Conducted UX research into audiences, markets and competitors.
  • Been involved in design thinking workshops, sprints and user-centred design projects.
  • A love of typography, information hierarchies and clear visual thinking.
  • Fantastic communication skills (written, spoken, and presented).
  • Experience with managing your own deadlines, and delivering good quality work within a project timeline.
  • An eye on what’s coming: from life-centred design to the future of work.
  • Naturally collaborative, ego-free and able to give and take design critique constructively.
  • Some project management experience is beneficial. We don’t have teams of account or project managers here, instead collaborating in agile sprints to make progress quickly.
